Static Residential IP Test Results: Key Metrics Explained

You buy a static residential IP and open an IP checker, only to find a long list of fields: ASN, Hosting, Proxy, Fraud Score, Abuse, WebRTC... Which ones actually matter? What should normal results look like? And why do different websites sometimes show different results?
This guide skips the complex technical details and focuses on one question: once you see the test results, what should you look at and how should you interpret them?

Why Test a Static Residential IP?
Testing a static residential IP mainly helps you confirm three things:
▸ Network type: Whether the IP belongs to a residential/ISP network rather than a Hosting or data center network;
▸ Proxy attributes: Whether third-party databases identify it as a Proxy, VPN, Tor, or Residential Proxy;
▸ Risk signals: Whether there are obvious signs of fraud, abuse, or other risks.
How to Read Static Residential IP Test Results?
1. IP Address and Geolocation
The main fields to check are: Country, Region, City, and Timezone.
Keep in mind that IP geolocation is based on database estimates and is not always accurate. City-level data can be especially imprecise. A city mismatch does not necessarily mean the IP is problematic, so it is worth checking the IP with multiple tools.
2. ASN and Network Type (Most Important)
This is one of the most important parts of the test results. Pay attention to these fields:
▸ ASN: The Autonomous System Number associated with the IP.
▸ ISP / Organization: The provider or organization assigned the IP.
▸ ASN Type: Typically classified as ISP, Hosting, Business, Education, and so on.
▸ Hosting: Whether the IP belongs to a hosting or data center network.
▸ Residential Proxy: Whether the IP is identified as a residential proxy.
▸ Proxy / VPN / Tor: Whether the IP shows proxy or anonymization characteristics.
Three Things to Keep in Mind:
ISP ≠ Always Residential: If an IP's ASN belongs to an ISP, that only indicates that it is associated with an ISP network. It does not prove that the IP comes from a real residential connection.
Residential ≠ No Proxy: A residential proxy can use a real ISP-assigned IP within a proxy network. For this reason, platforms such as IPinfo provide a separate Residential Proxy detection field. For example, an IP can simultaneously show ASN Type = ISP, is_hosting = false, and is_res_proxy = true.
Hosting = true is a signal worth investigating: If multiple tools identify an IP as Hosting or Datacenter, it is worth contacting the provider to confirm the IP's actual source.
The right approach is to evaluate these fields together rather than drawing conclusions from any single field.
3. Fraud Score / Risk Score
Some IP detection tools provide a Fraud Score or Risk Score to measure how strongly an IP is associated with known fraud, proxy use, suspicious traffic, and other risk signals.
Keep three things in mind:
▸ A higher score generally means more risk signals were detected: It does not mean the IP is automatically unusable.
▸ Different platforms use different data and algorithms: The same IP can receive different scores on different websites.
▸ Do not treat a single score as a measure of "IP cleanliness" or a blacklist result: It is only one reference point.
For example, Scamalytics uses a Risk Score from 0–100. Its current reference ranges are 0–19 (Low), 20–59 (Medium), 60–89 (High), and 90–100 (Very High).

If an IP has a relatively high Fraud Score, a better approach is to check its proxy attributes, Hosting status, ASN, historical abuse records, and actual access to the target platform rather than deciding whether to use it based on one score alone.
4. Abuse / Blacklist
Platforms such as AbuseIPDB can show whether an IP has historical abuse reports.
However, AbuseIPDB scores mainly reflect reported abuse and do not represent an IP's residential status or overall reputation. It is not specifically designed to measure the "cleanliness" of a residential IP.
The reverse is also true: having no abuse reports does not mean every risk-control system will consider the IP low risk. Different platforms make their assessments independently.
5. WebRTC / DNS / Browser Environment
Even when the proxy IP itself shows no obvious issues, your local browser or system environment may still expose information that does not match the IP. When using a static residential IP, also check:
▸ DNS: Whether DNS requests are routed through the proxy or expose your local DNS.
▸ WebRTC: Whether your real public IP is exposed through WebRTC.
▸ Timezone and language: Whether your system timezone and browser language match the IP's location.
Timezone and language do not have to match exactly. For example, someone can use a US IP with a Chinese system and browser. A more accurate way to look at it is that obvious inconsistencies between the environment and IP location may be treated as additional risk signals by some platforms.
Why Do Different IP Detection Websites Show Different Results?
This is a common question: the same IP is shown as ISP by IPinfo, Medium Risk by Scamalytics, and has no records on AbuseIPDB. Is that a contradiction?
No. Different platforms use:
▸ Different data sources
▸ Different update cycles
▸ Different detection models
▸ Different detection criteria
IPinfo also states that its residential proxy detection uses an independent dataset and methodology. So the results from a single tool should be treated as a reference, while cross-checking multiple tools provides a more complete picture.

▸ High Fraud Score: First compare it with the ASN, Hosting, Proxy, and other results. If multiple indicators are abnormal, consider changing the IP.
▸ Multiple Abuse records: Check the report dates and types. If there are recent and persistent abuse reports, consider switching to another node.
▸ DNS / WebRTC leak: Check your proxy configuration and browser environment.
